Velha Bataria Samba Band

Velha Bataria Samba Band is a Community Samba Drumming band based in Newport and Chepstow . It was established in 2016 in Chepstow and has made 60+ performances, many of which are local community events. 

Samba is Afro-Brazilian music,  It’s origins lie in the dances and religious practices of the West African slaves that were brought to Brazil during the Portuguese colonisation in the 1500’s.

The Velha Bataria Samba Band has approximately 20 members and rehearse at Hannah’s Music School,  Chepstow on Tuesday lunchtime and Ponthir Village Hall on Wednesday evenings.
