Originally those with workday boots danced in them whilst poorer performers danced in bare feet. Today the dance is more stylised and “cloggers” wear leather shoes with steel heel and toe taps – definitely not clogs! Synchronising percussive stepping with the music, Brandywine Cloggers’ dances are exuberant, high energy performances.
Brandywine Cloggers formed in 1991 now comprises of 8 dancers and a talented 3-piece string band – The Grey River Boys.
They meet on Wednesday evenings for practice at Llantarnam Church Hall near Cwmbran and welcome newcomers – complete beginners or those with experience in other dance styles.
