Following a dismal December and, for many, a covid Christmas, something positive was needed to start the Welsh new year. Prayers were answered on the night of Saturday 14th January when Mari Lwyd came to Caerleon.
Mari and entourage gathered outside the Hanbury Arms. Rituals and music commenced and continued inside a packed pub. A frisky Mari with flashing eyes delighted the expectant audience who enthusiastically participated in a programme of songs and music. A second Mari from Blaenavon joined the fun.
The truly wonderful Caerleon Mari Lwyd made it’s appearance this year for the first time without it’s owner and creator, the amazingly talented Henry Lutman.
Sadly he passed away in 2022 and will be forever missed, especially at the time of Hen Galan.
Congratulations to Lol, Emily, Peter, Dave, Meg, the Band and singers, Greville and Festival Friends for a memorable evening.
