The 15th Caerleon Festival fast approaches……….

The LATEST FESTIVAL NEWS

 6th July – 16th July

To set the scene for the 15th Annual Caerleon Festival, volunteers, aided by Kate Mobbs Morgan and her team of Ardennes horses, Kip and Sol, have been preparing the Festival Field for the Arts/Crafts Fayre on Saturday & Sunday 15th July – 16th July.

This work is also part of the Gateway Project to transform wasteland to wildflower meadow. See Gallery of photos showing them at work.

But this is just only  part of the picture.

During the ten days of the Festival, events will be taking place throughout the ancient, legendary, historic fortress “town” that is Caerleon.

Shakespeare’s “Merry Wives of Windsor” in the Roman Amphitheatre with Choir and prosecco is the start. To follow: “Lit on the Lawn” of the Priory Hotel with authors in conversation with TV’s Adrian Masters followed by performance poets including “Attila the Stockbroker”; a commemoration of the arrival in Caerleon of Basque refugee children fleeing the Spanish Civil War 80 years ago to the day (Why Caerleon? What

happened? How topical); concerts by “Na Mara”; the “Morriston Orpheus Choir” with soloist Robert Lewis; the “Collective” 17 piece band (bound to blow anyone away); “Acoustic Night”; performers in pubs; and the climax – “THE BIG FREE” weekend with music and dance on both banks of the Usk and fun on the Festival Field (A Meadow in the Making).

By the way, on Sunday 9th July The Velothon cyclists will be powering their way through Caerleon. At 4.30pm tarry at the St. Julian Inn to watch the river flow and listen to “Spellbound”, a band guaranteed to chill and thrill in equal measure. Free of course.
